MÉXICAN MOSQUITO BORNE DISEASES
(Aedes Mosquitoes)
Chikungunya Virus (CHIKV) is characterized by an abrupt onset of fever frequently accompanied by joint pain. Other common signs and symptoms include muscle pain, headache, nausea, fatigue and rash. The joint pain is often very debilitating, but usually lasts for a few days or may be prolonged to weeks. Hence the virus can cause acute, subacute or chronic disease. The transmission cycle requires infection of female mosquitoes through the blood of infected people.
Dengue Fever Symptoms are sudden onset of flu-like symptoms with high fever (40°C/104°F) and any 2 of the following symptoms: severe headache, muscle and joint pain, pain behind the eyes, nausea, vomiting, swollen lymph glands, or a faint rash. The fever usually lasts from three to five days, and rarely more than seven days. New vaccine Dengvaxia 76% effective in children.
Zika Virus Only 25% of people will have low-grade fever, joint pain, red eyes, rash and generalized symptoms such as muscle pain, physical weakness, lack of energy and headaches. Serious for pregnant women.
Malaria Symptoms include fever and flu-like symptoms such as headache, nausea, vomiting, muscle pain and malaise. Rigors (severe shakes or muscle spasms) and chills often occur. Vaccine available. No cases in Jalisco since 2014.
